We are delighted to be working on a collaborative project ‘This Is Margate’ with Dr Christopher Anderson, Senior Lecturer of Applied Linguistics at Canterbury Christ Church University. The project is part of a broader research project entitled ‘Reimagining Margate: an investigation into the discursive construction of the regional identities of an east Kent coastal town.’
This was originally designed as a live public engagement event to be held in our underground exhibition space, however given current and ongoing government restrictions for live events we have had to rethink and remodel the project.
It will now be presented as a virtual, online interactive 3D event which will go live in July 2020 and will be hosted on our website.
The aim is to encourage participation in the event from the broader Margate community and we aim to hold a live event in May 2021 where participants would be encouraged to respond to the texts by directly writing on them; writing on blank paper on a wall; and in a video diary room. These responses themselves would form additional research data. The event would also include talks, discussions and an opening night ‘party’ with local DJs and musicians.
